After graduating from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1995, Sue served as Operations Officer aboard the buoy tender USCGC Papaw, followed by a tour as Operations Officer at Vessel Traffic Service Houston/Galveston. Sue then enjoyed 14 years as an educator after moving to Juneau, AK with her husband Matt and three daughters in 2003. Apart from an adventurous three years in Valdez, AK serving as CG Ombudsman, Sue has made Juneau her home. Sue was a pedicab tour guide to cruise ship visitors along the docks and streets of historic downtown Juneau when she accepted the position to become ERLPA’s first Executive Director in 2018. Her interest in Eldred Rock stems from her roots in maritime tradition and serving her community while immersed in the wild beauty of SE AK. Sue’s goals are to help ERLPA receive ownership of the light station from the US Coast Guard and establish lasting care and share programs for it’s future existence. Sue also delights in sharing Eldred Rock with loved ones and friends.
